My son always corrects me: they’re not “ugly” sweater cookies, they’re Christmas sweater cookies. “Not all holiday sweaters are ugly, mom.” He’s right. Sometimes they’re not. But usually they are…
For this Christmas sweater cookie video, I did a mashup of holiday quotes from movies. Can you guess the which movies the quotes are from?

Making the Sweater Cookies
This was actually my second go-around for “ugly” sweater cookies. The first time I made them was in 2015, back when I was much more ambitious.
Because I didn’t have a sweater cookie cutter, I cut thin strips of dough and extended the arms of a onesie cookie cutter. For not just a couple of cookies…for dozens. Like, 12 dozen. This time around, I actually had a sweater cookie cutter.
And because the sweaters are so time consuming, you always have to have a few “bread and butter” cookies that are a bit faster. Although, that red stocking ended up being more intricate than expected.
This is my favorite image of them all…it looks like a class picture. Old me would’ve been annoyed by the slight differences between each of the reindeer. Wise me loves the different personality it creates.

Happy holidays, and happy baking friends.

Now I laugh at that idea, because I most definitely would’ve used it, for this project and who knows how many others. In fact, just this winter I made yet another round of Holiday Sweater Cookies. […]
